Annette Meincke-Nagy’s oversized heads, her busts and full figures touch, make the viewer pause. They radiate something enchanted, dreamy, introverted and thus a quiet power. Resting completely within themselves, they seem to be in another reality and yet show a strong presence. The sculptures are made of a paper-quartz-glue mixture. On a wire frame, they grow layer by layer in a lengthy, meditative process.

Reinhard Wöllmer’s works are characterized by clear geometric forms and the irritating use of intense colors. Light is actively involved in the pictorial action, creating soft transitions or hard lines, shadows and coloured reflections. Through the openings in his paper cut outs, spaces flooded with color appear as if by magic. The cut outs are accompanied by his objects made of dyed papier mâché. They are circular, hollow volumes consisting of curved discs, which are structured by sculptural lines. The play with color contrasts confuses perception and leads to optical irritations. And it is precisely the contrast between their strict shapes and the playful aspect – revealed in the dialogue with light and color – that constitutes the particular charm of Reinhard Wöllmer’s works.
